After Belonging: The Academy

The Academy is a forum organized by the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO). It brought schools and students from around the world into a global dialogue and knowledge-sharing experiment, reflecting on the topics of After Belonging. Discussions included new forms of residence, housing policies, homeownership, rapid gentrification, cohabitation, and the adaptation of the existing stock of housing for new inhabitants, on Oslo’s neighborhoods of Grønland and Tøyen .
The Academy presented a full program of events, such as workshops, roundtables, and lectures among others. It operated in three phases—an analytical phase, a critical phase, and a production phase—which was distributed over a period of eight days. The aim was to produce a collective project—a combination of an ephemeral structure, a performance, a publication, an action, an exhibition. The Academy projected the concerns of the Triennale into the future by introducing long-lasting academic conversations, and collaborations between multiple universities around the world, which will hopefully have an impact in architectural education and practices.
